Karen Evans Odell grew up on a farm in northwest Ohio, graduated from Ohio Northern University at Ada, Ohio and has a master’s degree from The College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, MN. She taught school for nearly forty years. She was Montana Conservation Teacher of the Year, Regional Conservation Teacher of the Year, NASA and National Science Teacher’s Association representative for the state of Montana, and was chosen by NASA to be trained as a NEWEST teacher. Karen’s students have been Montana and South Dakota state geography competition participants, regional and state Mathcounts participants in both Montana and South Dakota, National History Day top ten national finalists, NASA state art winners, national original story finalist, and second place team in the nation in Spacecraft Design. She was in the singing duo of ‘Sugar and Spice’, was a member of the ‘North American Welsh Choir’ and has been a choir director. She was an EMT and is a Certified Legal Assistant. At age 60 she earned her black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Karen and her search dogs have traveled to many trainings. She is a member of Rocky Mountain Trackers and was trained as a mantracker by Joel Hardin who teaches tracking to Search and Rescue, Police, Military, and Mounted Police and owns Joel Hardin Professional Trackers. Karen plays many musical instruments and sings. She has produced, accompanied, written, and arranged her own CD of songs. Karen painted the cover picture for her newest novel, Search For Rescue, and the cover picture for her musical CD, "Along the Little Missouri". She has written three children’s books, writes a column for three newspapers and is compiling a history for her high school at Vaughnsville and Sugar Creek Township in Ohio. She has been published in national magazines. She has four grown children and six grandchildren. She and her husband Charlie Odell live on a ranch in Montana.

Search For Rescue is the first book in author K. Evans Odell's Sioux Forest Series. The Capitol Rock National Monument and the Custer National Forest in Eastern Montana are the setting for this adventure mystery. Danette Griffiths, a young teacher, and her collie dog, Gwylm, practice the art of air-scent tracking. Soon they also begin teaching mantracking to two friends for use in search and rescue. Danette and Gwylm not only find lost people, they find adventure. In the new country they have moved to, they discover some great friendships among those that they meet, but in times of danger, they suddenly find that their survival depends upon each other.
